Polypipe demonstrates how plastic can be fantastic to Horncastle pupils

Thursday 20th July 2017

The summer holidays are nearly upon us, and another school year has come and gone. As you will remember from your own school days, the last weeks of the school year are often filled with activities such as sports days, annual award ceremonies, and of course, school trips!

This year has been no different, with Polypipe opening the doors of its Holmes Way manufacturing plant to 90 school children in Year 4, from  Horncastle Primary School. As part of the visit, the Polypipe team taught the pupils about how the company sources and uses the materials and machinery necessary to make its wide range of plastic piping products. The children also learnt how Polypipe products are manufactured in the UK and exported both around the UK and the world through an activity workshop and factory tour.

To support the pupils in their recent studies, members of staff from Polypipe were on hand to explain the fundamentals of recycling, using their expert knowledge of plastic products. The team also undertook a factory tour to see some of Polypipe’s products being manufactured from high quality recycled plastic material.

Polypipe prides itself on its high standard of raw materials and where standards allow, the company manufacture many of its products to incorporate recycled content including its Ridgidrain surface water drainage range and Ridgiduct cable protection systems, which offer specifiers proven structured wall products with reduced virgin plastic content, without compromise in performance.

John Bush, Operations Director for Polypipe Civils, Horncastle,Said:“Polypipe takes great pleasure in having the children visit the site on an annual basis as it gives them an insight at a young age to see a manufacturing plant in operation, from raw material coming in to the site, to finished product being manufactured.

“At the same time it provides the children an understanding of where our machinery and raw materials are manufactured from around the world and where the product is delivered out too.”

Miss Fox, teacher at Horncastle Primary School said: “Year 4 thoroughly enjoyed the day and learned a lot about trade for their Geography topic. They were fascinated by the factory’s machines and we would like to thank you all for letting us visit!”

Each pupil took away their very own Polypipe high-visibility vest as a memento of their visit and to improve their safety on the way to and from school.

Permavoid for Drainage, Conveyance and Capillary Irrigation showcased at the Middle East Landscape Summit

Monday 15th May 2017

Held under the patronage of Government of Dubai and Dubai Municipality, the fifth edition of Middle East Landscape Summit took place at the Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort & Spa on 15th and 16th May 2017. As one of the only landscape conferences in Dubai the event focused on the region’s overall commitment to the sustainable growth of green spaces whilst outlining various innovative approaches to create green transformation.

Polypipe were proud to join this significant event as a networking sponsor and predominantly showcased Permavoid, a robust geocellular system providing drainage, conveyance and capillary irrigation system for a variety of shallow applications including podium deck, roofs and urban landscaping. Permavoid is water conservation system aimed at managing surface water at source, as close to where it falls as possible. Its high strength and integrity allows it to be designed into pavement structures, and means it is ideal for use in projects requiring shallow soakaway, attenuation or detention such as in contaminated ground and in areas with high water tables. When combined with other parts of the Permavoid range, the complete system allows for superior management and improvement of water quality.

In comparison to traditional systems, Permavoid saves on construction costs, maintenance, labour, water and energy consumption and replanting. The Permavoid system has been used in some of the major projects in the region including the National Bank of Oman and Passivhaus in Qatar.

A huge amount of interest was gained from the event which was attended by more than 200 attendees including the major developers, architects, designers, landscapers and consultants.

Wednesday 29th March 2017

Polypipe Middle East are proud be to an official networking sponsor at the Middle East Smart Landscape Summit 2017. The 5th Annual Middle East Smart Landscape Summit will be held under the support of the Dubai Municipality on 15th & 16th May, 2017 at Sofitel Dubai The Palm Resort and Spa, Dubai UAE.

As the only landscape focused conference in Dubai, the event will emphasise on the region’s commitment to the sustainable growth of green spaces and will outline innovative  approaches to green transformation. As the region’s leading landscaping event, the summit aims to promote investment in green infrastructure and present the diverse opportunities and obstacles faced in increasing green landscapes in the city.

Polypipe Middle East will be showcasing Permavoid - a shallow geocellular water conservation system aimed at managing surface water at source, as close to where it falls as possible at this leading event of sustainable landscape solutions.

Where sufficient and high quality green space is of major importance in the Middle East region for liveable and healthy cites, the Permavoid range of products create great value with sub-soil irrigation systems for trees, plants and turf, usable in podium decks, roof gardens, parks, roadside planting and in green roofs. The Permavoid system is based on natural capillary irrigation, directly from the water retaining drainage layer, preventing losses of valuable irrigation water to surface evaporation and deep drainage, attaining a 50-60% reduction in irrigation water needs. Permavoid is 100% natural system, it does not require any pumps, hoses, valves or energy to operate year round. Irrigating plants without water having to be pressurized also means that other sources of water such as HVAC condensate, wash down and stormwater can be directly captured, stored and used on-site for plant irrigation, without the need for storage or retention tanks. A truly nature-based system enabling the creation of green and healthy cities with twice the amount of green space with the same amount of irrigation water.
